  • Amazon plans to give Alexa an AI overhaul — and a monthly subscription price - Amazon is upgrading its decade-old Alexa voice assistant with generative artificial intelligence and plans to charge a monthly subscription fee to offset the cost of the technology. The offering will not be included in Amazon Prime subscriptions, but Amazon has not yet nailed down the price point.

  • Google Set to Bring Ads in Search AI Overviews - Google will start testing search and shopping ads in its AI-generated answers in the U.S. Ads will appear in a 'sponsored' section within AI Overview based on the query's relevance and information. The company said it would continue to test and learn new ad formats, getting feedback from advertisers.

  • Microsoft’s New ‘Recall’ Feature Will Record Everything You Do on Your PC – It’s A Privacy Nightmare - Microsoft has announced 'Recall,' a feature with a photographic memory. Recall takes screenshots of your active screen every few seconds, allowing you to review past actions on your device. An AI-powered search will retrieve these screenshots and open relevant apps. While promising, this feature raises significant data privacy concerns, as AI can track and remember everything you do on your PC.

  • Elon Musk’s xAI is working on making Grok multimodal - xAI, is making progress on adding multimodal inputs to its Grok chatbot allowing users to input images into Grok for text-based answers.

  • Holistic AI Is Now H, a New French Startup With $220 Million Out of the Gate - Charles Kantor, the startup’s chief executive officer said the company is working toward “full-AGI”. “The H team’s vision of creating a large action model to automate business tasks has the ability to be transformational across all industries,” Philippe Botteri, a partner at Accel, said in a statement.

  • Google announced that its new data analysis feature in Gemini Advanced is now live - You can now upload your spreadsheets for faster data processing & exploration, presentation-ready charts, and deeper insights. Upload Google Sheets, CSVs, and Excel files directly from Google Drive or your device.

  • What Nvidia says about AI chip demand could matter for more than just the tech trade - Conversations about AI have shifted from chipmakers like Nvidia and AMD to tech giants like Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon. This has led to individual stocks rising rapidly, similar to Nvidia's growth since early 2024. Morgan Stanley CIO Mike Wilson identified Utilities as an "Overweight" sector, highlighting its AI potential. Over 66% of Energy companies mentioned AI in their earnings calls this quarter, up from 19.1% last quarter.

  • Humane is looking for a buyer after the AI Pin’s underwhelming debut - Humane, the startup behind the poorly-reviewed AI Pin wearable computer, is already hunting for a potential buyer for its business, and is “seeking a price of between $750 million and $1 billion.” But it’s unclear how much value Humane’s intellectual property would really bring to any of their ongoing efforts.

  • Using AI, Mastercard expects to find compromised cards quicker, before they get used by criminals - Mastercard says it expects to be able to discover that your credit or debit card number has been compromised well before it ends up in the hands of a cybercriminal. “Generative AI is going to allow to figure out where did you perhaps get your credentials compromised, how do we identify how it possibly happened, and how do we very quickly remedy that situation not only for you, but the other customers who don't know they are compromised yet,” said Johan Gerber.

  • Moderna Has Big AI News. Is the Stock a Buy? - Moderna isn't new to AI - it uses AI to produce mRNAs for researchers to work with, so they no longer have to create mRNA manually to run experiments, which saves them time in the lab. A few weeks ago, Moderna said it has expanded its collaboration with OpenAI, and not only expects AI to help advance the drug discovery process, but also says the technology already is making the entire company more efficient.

  • AI will power the stock market for the next decade, former Cisco CEO says - “I think the overall question if you’re an investor and you an invest in a portfolio of AI stocks, and [if] you did it consistently over the next five to 10 years, you’re going to do very well.” “I think AI will be like the internet, except three to five times more powerful. It will change your life in every way.” Chambers said 38% of venture capital in the U.S. in the first quarter went into AI stocks. He expects that to increase to “way over” 50%.

  • AI in Chemicals Market Surges to $3.8 Billion by 2029 - Led by IBM (US), Microsoft (US), Schneider Electric (France) - The AI in chemicals market is witnessing a surge in AI adoption driven by two key factors: the increasing integration of AI in research and development (R&D) processes and the rising demand for AI-powered solutions to optimize chemical processes. These trends reflect a strategic shift towards leveraging advanced technologies for enhanced innovation and operational efficiency in the chemical industry.

  • IBM Unleashes a Flurry of AI Updates - IBM open-sourced AI models for code generation, used in watsonx Code Assistant and Code Assistant for Z. New AI assistants for Java development and mainframe management will launch later this year. IBM partnered with AWS and Salesforce to integrate watsonx into their platforms, and it can now run on Microsoft's Azure cloud.

  • Near plans AI agent to help users code decentralized apps - Near co-founder Illia Polosukhin believes that there’s a need for user-owned AIs that are optimized for people’s well-being and economic success. He shared the company’s goal of empowering visionaries without technical coding skills with an artificial intelligence (AI) agent that can create decentralized applications (DApps) for them.

  • Microsoft launches an AI-powered copy-and-paste tool. Here's how you can use it - Added to the free PowerToys utility, the new Advanced Paste tool not only lets you choose the format for pasted text, but offers AI powers to summarize, rewrite, or translate the text. To take Advanced Paste for a spin, you'll need the latest version of PowerToys.

  • Sam Altman shares the next steps for AI at Microsoft Build - "The most important thing sounds like the most boring, obvious, trite thing I can say, but I think it is actually much deeper than it sounds," Altman said. "The most important thing is that the models are just going to get smarter -- generally, across the board." In terms of what the public should expect from future OpenAI models, Altman shared that the startup cares about speed, cost, and multimodality.
