• Gov. Newsom Backs Bills to Curb Deepfake Election Content - Governor Gavin Newsom announced on X his intention to sign legislation that would crack down on the use of AI in campaign ads. This announcement followed Elon Musk's reposting of an altered video ad featuring Vice President Kamala Harris with an AI-generated voiceover.

• OpenAI Backs Senate Bills for AI Safety and Accessibility - OpenAI’s support for these bills follows a letter from Senate Democrats and an independent lawmaker to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The letter sought clarification on the company’s protocols for ensuring safety and its treatment of whistleblowers within the organization.

• Google Upgrades Search to Combat Deepfakes and Enhance Privacy - Google detailed its new measures for handling explicit fake content, or non-consensual deepfakes, in Search. Previously, users could request the removal of such content from search results. Now, Google will also filter all duplicates of the image and explicit results from similar searches about the user, not just the original removal request.
