• A16z Secures GPUs to Boost AI Startups - Andreessen Horowitz, a leading venture capital firm with $42 billion in assets under management, has strategically acquired thousands of GPUs, including many of Nvidia's H100 processors, to bolster AI startups. The firm, also known as A16z, has rented out these GPUs to numerous portfolio companies. A16z's initiative, named “Oxygen,” is poised to grow to more than 20,000 GPUs.

• Anthropic's Claude Artifacts Revolutionize Online Education - Anthropic has just announced a groundbreaking feature: Claude's Artifacts can now be published online. This innovation is set to transform online education. With this new capability, every piece of content—be it a screenshot, PDF, presentation, or more—can be converted into an interactive learning game.

• Elon Musk Announces Grok 2's Expected Release Next Month - Elon Musk has announced that Grok 2, the next generation of his AI tool Grok, will likely be ready for release next month. "Grok 2 is going through finetuning and bug fixes. Probably ready to release next month," Musk stated.

• Justice Department Uncovers Russian Bot Network on X - The Justice Department has revealed and dismantled a Russian propaganda network consisting of nearly 1,000 accounts on the social media platform X. These accounts, posing as Americans—including a bitcoin investor in Minneapolis—were actually controlled by Russian operatives with Kremlin approval and financial backing.

• AMD Acquires Silo AI to Expand Enterprise AI Capabilities - Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced on Wednesday a definitive agreement to acquire Silo AI, the largest private artificial intelligence lab in Europe, in an all-cash transaction valued at $665 million. The news led to a rise in AMD stock. AMD stated that this acquisition will enhance its enterprise AI solutions on a global scale.

• Samsung Leans on AI to Boost Device Sales with Galaxy AI Platform - Samsung unveiled a range of new devices during its Unpacked event in Paris, France, on Wednesday. The highlight of the event was Samsung’s Galaxy AI platform, a suite of software products initially launched with the Galaxy S24 line of smartphones earlier this year. Galaxy AI offers generative AI capabilities integrated into Samsung’s health and fitness apps, photo applications, productivity tools, and web browser offerings.

• Microsoft's VALL-E 2 AI Speech Generator Faces Misuse Risks - Microsoft's new artificial intelligence (AI) speech generator, VALL-E 2, has demonstrated an impressive capability to recreate human voices using just a few seconds of audio. However, due to the potential risks associated with its release, the technology will not be made available to the public.

• Microsoft Leaves OpenAI Board Amid Regulatory Scrutiny - Months after Microsoft gained a non-voting observer seat on OpenAI’s board, the company has decided to leave the position. In a letter sent to OpenAI on Tuesday, Microsoft expressed confidence in the AI company’s progress and direction. “We’re grateful to Microsoft for voicing confidence in the Board and the direction of the company, and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership,” OpenAI stated.

• OpenAI Partners with Los Alamos to Study AI in Lab Settings - OpenAI and Los Alamos National Laboratory are collaborating to explore the benefits and risks of using generative AI in an active laboratory setting. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has emphasized generative AI’s potential to advance human understanding in science, despite concerns about its misuse, such as the creation of bioweapons.
