This emerging field leverages living biological matter, such as lab-grown human brain organoids, to create new forms of computing architecture that could potentially revolutionize AI by reducing the amount of energy needed to power the computing process.

• Microsoft PowerToys Workspaces: Launch and Arrange Apps with One Click - Microsoft is set to introduce a powerful new feature to its popular PowerToys suite: Workspaces. This upcoming tool, slated to debut in the PowerToys 0.84 update, will allow Windows users to launch and automatically arrange their favorite apps with just a single click.

• OpenAI Identifies Iranian Group Using ChatGPT to Influence US Election - OpenAI has banned several ChatGPT accounts linked to an Iranian group that attempted to sow division among U.S. voters through AI-generated content. The discovery was part of an internal investigation, which revealed that the group used ChatGPT to create online articles and social media comments centered on divisive topics, including the U.S. presidential election, Israel's war in Gaza, and Israel's participation in the Olympic Games.

• California Revises AI Safety Bill SB 1047 Ahead of Final Vote - California’s AI safety bill, SB 1047, designed to prevent potential disasters from large-scale AI systems, has been significantly revised following input from key industry players, including AI firm Anthropic. The bill, which faced strong opposition from various Silicon Valley stakeholders, now incorporates several amendments intended to address these concerns.

• Wyoming Mayoral Candidate Pledges to Govern with AI Bot - In what could be the first campaign of its kind in the U.S., Victor Miller, a librarian with a deep interest in artificial intelligence, is pledging to run the city of Cheyenne, Wyoming, using an AI bot named “VIC” if elected mayor. Victor Miller outlined his vision of AI governance, which he believes could bring objectivity, efficiency, and transparency to local government.

• AI Researchers Suggest Personhood Credentials to Combat Online Bots - As concerns grow over the potential for AI bots to overrun the internet, a group of artificial intelligence researchers has proposed a bold solution: requiring humans to verify their identity to access online services. This idea, outlined in a recently published preprint paper, suggests that individuals would need to obtain "personhood credentials" to prove their humanity online.

• U.S. Financial Services Committee Proposes AI ‘Regulatory Sandboxes - Leaders of the United States House Financial Services Committee (FSC) have responded to the U.S. Treasury’s request for feedback on regulating artificial intelligence (AI) with a call for a flexible, case-by-case approach.
