Some of these articles in today’s newsletter may be a day or 2 old, but I thought they were good to include since we couldn’t report on them earlier. Also, I have tons to report on from the conference, but I’ll need to distill it down and I’ll share that next week.

SoftBank Eyes TSMC for AI Processors as Intel Partnership Falters - SoftBank’s ambitious Project Izanagi, which aims to develop AI processors, has encountered challenges with its current partner, Intel. According to sources cited by the Financial Times, Intel has struggled to meet the ‘volume and speed’ requirements set by SoftBank. As a result, the Japanese conglomerate is now considering a partnership with TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker.
Google Expands AI Search Summaries to Six New Countries - Google has announced the expansion of its AI-generated summaries for search queries, known as AI Overviews, to six new countries. This comes just two months after the company rolled back some capabilities due to issues during its initial launch. In response, Google made updates in late May to improve the feature. These updates included limiting the types of queries that would trigger AI answers and reducing the reliance on user-generated content from sites like Reddit.
Grammarly Unveils AI Content Detector Tool Targeted at Education - Grammarly is set to launch a new tool called Grammarly Authorship, designed to detect whether content was created by AI, a human, or a combination of both. Although it will be available to all users, the tool is specifically targeted at the education market, addressing concerns about AI-generated content in academic settings.
FTC Bans Fake Online Reviews, Targets AI-Generated Fakes - The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has implemented a new rule designed to combat deceptive online reviews. This rule targets businesses involved in buying, selling, or promoting fake reviews, including those generated by artificial intelligence. The goal is to protect consumers from misleading information and ensure a fair marketplace for honest businesses.

ChatGPT Clones User’s Voice During Test, Highlighting AI Risks - OpenAI recently released the system card for its new GPT-4o AI model, which outlines the model’s limitations and safety testing procedures. Among the findings, the document reveals a surprising incident where the model’s Advanced Voice Mode unintentionally mimicked a user’s voice during testing. While OpenAI has safeguards in place to prevent this from happening again, the incident highlights the growing complexity of safely managing AI systems capable of voice imitation.
xAI Launches Grok-2 Beta with Advanced Language Models for 𝕏 Platform - xAI has launched the beta version of its latest language model, Grok-2, along with a more compact variant, Grok-2 mini. These models represent a substantial upgrade from the previous Grok-1.5, introducing advanced capabilities in areas such as chat, coding, and reasoning. xAI reports that Grok-2 has already demonstrated strong performance, surpassing competitors like Claude 3.5 Sonnet and GPT-4-Turbo on the LMSYS leaderboard under the alias "sus-column-r." Users on the 𝕏 platform now have access to both Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini.
Apple Plans 2026 Launch for Robotic Home Device with 360º Display - Apple is reportedly accelerating the development of a tabletop robotic home device, aiming for a release as soon as 2026 or 2027. The device is expected to feature a large display, similar to an iPad, mounted on a sleek, robotic arm that can tilt up and down and rotate a full 360 degrees. This versatile design would allow the device to function as a smart home command center, a videoconferencing tool, and a home security monitor.
Anthropic’s Prompt Caching for Claude Models Cuts Costs, Latency - Anthropic has rolled out a new feature called prompt caching, now in public beta for its Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3 Haiku models, with support for Claude 3 Opus to follow soon. This feature allows developers to store frequently used prompt contexts between API calls, enabling Claude to access necessary background information and example outputs more efficiently. According to Anthropic, prompt caching can significantly reduce costs—by up to 90%—and decrease latency by as much as 85% for lengthy prompts, making it a highly beneficial tool for a variety of applications.
