• Fabric Raises $60 Million to Grow Conversational AI-Powered Healthcare Platform - The platform increases provider productivity by streamlining in-person and virtual visits with tools like conversational artificial intelligence, and provides patients with services like symptom checking, appointment scheduling and reminders.

• Microsoft admits that OpenAI's Sora will come to Copilot - Mikhail Parakhin, CEO of Advertising & Web Services at Microsoft, hinted that OpenAI’s Sora will eventually be integrated with Copilot, but it will take some time. Integrating these two could potentially create a powerful tool for developers, allowing them to leverage the capabilities of both AI models in their work.

• Generative AI Chip Designer Recogni Locks Up $102M - While the company has its roots in designing chips that help autonomous vehicles detect objects, it is now also exploring the AI market. The company’s accelerator chip uses live data in trained models for predictions — all while requiring less energy, the company says.

• Microsoft develops AI server gear to lessen reliance on Nvidia - Microsoft is developing a new network card that could improve the performance of its Maia AI server chip and potentially reduce the company's reliance on chip designer Nvidia.

• OpenAI now doubles GPT-4 Turbo rate limits, now up to 1.5 million tokens per minute - Each usage comes with different pricing plans. OpenAI offers at least five usage tiers: the free version, which is limited at $100 / month, all the way to tier 5 at $10,000 / month for larger organizations.

• Intel Launches World’s First Systems Foundry Designed for the AI Era - Intel Foundry launches as the world’s first systems foundry for the AI era, delivering leadership in technology, resiliency and sustainability. Intel Foundry announces design win: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shares that Microsoft has chosen a chip design it plans to produce on the Intel 18A process.

• Match Group inks deal with OpenAI, says press release written by ChatGPT - The new agreement includes over 1,000 enterprise licenses for the dating app giant. The AI tech will be used to help Match Group employees with work-related tasks, the company says, and come as part of Match’s $20 million-plus bet on AI in 2024.

• Nearly all doctors feel burnout, but many are encouraged by potential of AI, survey says - Doctors in the U.S. are struggling to contend with burnout, staffing shortages and overwhelming administrative workloads, according to a new survey. Despite these challenges, 83% of doctors in the survey said they believe AI could eventually help.

• New York Times plans to debut new generative AI ad tool later this year - The New York Times is recruiting partners to test new ad-targeting solutions using generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) beginning next quarter. It plans to make the new tool widely available to marketers in the second half of the year.

• This startup is using AI to discover new materials - Orbital Materials — founded by Jonathan Godwin, who previously was involved with DeepMind’s material research efforts — is creating an AI-powered platform that can be used to discover materials ranging from batteries to carbon dioxide-capturing cells.

• Samsung will bring Galaxy AI to its wearables - The move aims to revolutionize digital health experiences and marks a significant step in Samsung’s commitment to integrating AI across its product lineup.

• Women in AI: Lee Tiedrich, AI expert at the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence - As an AI expert at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), an international initiative to promote responsible AI use, Lee Tiedrich develops approaches for AI that evaluate and manage risk while aligning law, policy and practices with science.

• China’s Moonshot AI zooms to $2.5B valuation, raising $1B for an LLM focused on long context - Moonshot AI, an artificial intelligence startup founded less than a year ago building LLMs that can handle long inputs of text and data, has raised over $1 billion in a Series B round. If accurate, this latest injection of capital would value Moonshot AI at $2.5 billion — the largest single funding round for Chinese LLM developers on public record.

• Andrew Yang and 300 international experts petition for government action on AI deepfakes - A coalition of over 300 technology, AI and digital ethics experts worldwide advocates for government intervention to combat deepfakes, citing concerns over their societal impact.

• Qloo raises $25M to predict your favorite movies, TV shows and more - One of AI’s more useful applications in the long run might be identifying the counterintuitive correlations humans miss. Qloo, a New York-based startup, has made it its mission to apply AI to understand different types of nuanced taste and culture patterns, and seeks to uncover consumer behaviors and trends across entertainment, fashion, travel, sports, food and other segments.

• Engineers use AI to wrangle fusion power for the grid - The University and the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) have harnessed the power of artificial intelligence to predict—and then avoid—the formation of a specific plasma problem in real time.
