Amazon and Anthropic deepen their shared commitment to advancing generative AI - “Anthropic’s visionary work with generative AI, most recently its state-of-the art Claude 3 family of models, combined with Amazon’s best-in-class infrastructure like AWS Tranium and managed services like Amazon Bedrock further unlocks exciting opportunities for customers to quickly, securely, and responsibly innovate with generative AI."
Google announces new SGE and Maps travel features for people who like to plan a little or not at all - Google announced the ability to create an itinerary in SGE (Google's experiment for AI-powered search) and new ways to find recommendations and customize lists in Maps. With SGE's travel planning feature, you can ask it to plan you an itinerary with recommendations pulled from around the web including Business Profiles for restaurants and sites with images and user reviews.
White House orders federal agencies to name chief AI officers - The new policy also requires federal agencies to establish AI governance boards to coordinate and establish rules for the use of AI technologies across each agency. By December, federal agencies must also put in place what the White House calls "concrete safeguards" when they use AI "in a way that could impact Americans' rights or safety."
Accenture Invests in Sanctuary AI to Bring AI-Powered, Humanoid Robotics to Work Alongside Humans - Accenture has invested in in Sanctuary AI, a developer of humanoid general-purpose robots that are powered by AI and can perform a wide variety of work tasks quickly, safely and effectively. “AI-powered humanoid robots are essential to reinventing work and supporting human workers as labor shortage is becoming an issue in many countries and industries.”

Treasury Report Finds ‘Significant’ Gaps in AI Fraud Prevention - “As more firms deploy AI, a gap exists in the data available to financial institutions for training models,” the department said. “This gap is significant in the area of fraud prevention, where there is insufficient data sharing among firms.” Bigger institutions tend to have much more historical data, while smaller FIs typically lack the internal data and expertise needed to develop their own anti-fraud AI models.
Google.org launches $20M generative AI accelerator program - Google.org, Google’s charitable wing, is launching a new program to help fund nonprofits developing tech that leverages generative AI. In addition to funding, nonprofits in the six-week accelerator program will get access to technical training, workshops, mentors and guidance from an “AI coach.”
Oracle gives NetSuite an AI upgrade - Instead of charging customers extra for AI features, Oracle is treating these product improvements as table stakes — setting up a showdown with rivals who are charging a premium for similar services.
