• Reddit in AI content licensing deal with Google - Mikhail Parakhin, Reddit has struck a deal with Google to make its content available for training the search engine giant's artificial intelligence models. The deal underscores how Reddit, which is preparing for a high-profile stock market launch, is seeking to generate new revenue amid fierce competition for advertising dollars from the likes of TikTok and Meta.

• 1 minute of OpenAI's Sora video may take over an hour to generate - When you calculate the savings for all the typical animation labor, that’s not crazy at all, however Users expressed concerns about the scalability and practicality of iterative workflows.

• Nvidia races to $2 trillion mark as AI mania sparks Wall St tech rally - Nvidia galloped to $2 trillion market value on Thursday after the AI chip demand once again exceeded Wall Street's sky-high expectations, re-igniting a global rally in tech stocks. The chipmaker returned as the third most valuable U.S. company as its shares jumped 15% to a record high of $780.85.

• Scale AI to set the Pentagon’s path for testing and evaluating large language models - The company will create a comprehensive test-and-evaluation (T&E) framework for generative AI within the Defense Department “to deploy AI safely by measuring model performance, offering real-time feedback, and creating specialized public sector evaluation sets to test AI models for military support applications, such as organizing the findings from after action reports.”

• Google pauses AI tool Gemini’s ability to generate images of people after historical inaccuracies - “We’re working to improve these kinds of depictions immediately. Gemini’s Al image generation does generate a wide range of people. And that’s generally a good thing because people around the world use it. But it’s missing the mark here.”

A blind spot for ChatGPT seems to stem from the fact that a lot of Black cultural elements are not necessarily documented online; they are passed down in person or orally through generations. This means its algorithm misses a lot of nuances when scraping the internet for information about Black people. Gerald Carter, founder of Destined AI, a company that helps detect and mitigate AI bias, said the McKinney quiz does a good job at gamifying and bringing more awareness to these AI gaps.

• Intel’s AI Reboot Is the Future of US Chipmaking - The biggest chipmaker in the US is hoping that generative AI—and US government concern about China’s tech ambitions—will revitalize its business.

• AI Predicts Alzheimer’s 7 Years Early - Machine learning applied to clinical data can predict Alzheimer’s onset with 72% accuracy up to seven years in advance. High cholesterol and osteoporosis are significant predictors of Alzheimer’s, with osteoporosis being a notable factor for women. Using UCSF’s SPOKE, researchers connected Alzheimer’s risk to specific genes, including a link between osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s in women through the MS4A6A gene.

• AI Startup Jasper Acquires Image Generator Clipdrop From Stability AI - Jasper has acquired Clipdrop, an artificial intelligence-powered photo application from Stability AI as Jasper expands its offerings beyond text editing to photos.

• Samsung is bringing Galaxy AI features to more devices - Samsung is bringing its Galaxy AI features to more devices through a new One UL 6.1 update coming in late March. The features are coming to the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5 and Z Flip5, as well as Tab S9 Ultra, Tab S9+ and Tab S9.

• Nvidia has begun sampling two new AI chips for China market - Nvidia is currently offering customers samples of its two new artificial intelligence chips aimed at the China market in a bid to defend its market dominance in the country now threatened by U.S. export curbs.

• Women in AI: Rashida Richardson, senior counsel at Mastercard focusing on AI and privacy - Rashida Richardson is senior counsel at Mastercard, where her purview lies with legal issues relating to privacy and data protection in addition to AI. Formerly the director of policy research at the AI Now Institute, the research institute studying the social implications of AI, and a senior policy advisor for data and democracy at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Richardson has been an assistant professor of law and political science at Northeastern University since 2021. There, she specializes in race and emerging technologies.

• Nvidia’s AI mania provides new urgency to Biden’s goal of boosting US chipmakers - Nvidia’s blockbuster results on Wednesday demonstrated the insatiable demand for semiconductors to power new AI systems and the fear that supply may not be able to keep up. That could make Washington’s goal of revitalizing US chip manufacturing in the years ahead even more pressing to ensure that America is not left behind.

• How AI health care chatbots learn from the questions of an Indian women’s organization - The chatbot, currently a pilot project, represents what many hope will be part of the impact of AI on health care around the globe: to deliver accurate medical information in personalized responses that can reach more people. In this case, the chatbot’s focus on reproductive health also offers vital information that — because of social norms — is difficult to access elsewhere.

• Travelers Insurance applies for AI software trademark - Travelers Companies has filed for a trademark on artificial intelligence (AI) software and applications for insurance claims processing, administration, loss control management along with numerous other tasks.

• Antler’s founder on its vertical AI bet in Southeast Asia - A growing roster of vertical AI startups is emerging in Southeast Asia to serve sectors ranging from seafood to finance. Singapore-based venture capital firm Antler recently made a bet on 37 of them, investing $5.1 million in total for pre-seed deals.

• Generative AI ‘commonplace in cloud business models’ – as Azure leads the way - More than 7 in 10 cloud environments are employing managed AI services according to a new analysis, with the common use of OpenAI, be it directly or through Azure SDKs, suggesting that generative AI tools are ‘quickly becoming commonplace in cloud business models.’
