The patent suggests Tesla’s ambition to incorporate wireless charging pads into its Robotaxi fleet. This technology would allow Robotaxis to operate autonomously without human involvement, which could significantly enhance the efficiency and scalability of Tesla's self-driving fleet. It could also make Tesla’s autonomous fleet more efficient by ensuring the vehicles can remain operational for longer periods.

Acquisition and Future Development

Tesla had hinted at this technology as early as 2023 during its Investor Day. At that time, the automaker teased the development of a wireless charging pad, which effectively replaced the need for the previously demonstrated “snake charger.” To further streamline this technology, Tesla acquired Wiferion, a wireless charging company, in July 2023, later selling the company but retaining many of its engineers.
