Proton Scribe AI Assistant - Privacy-Focused and Secure
Proton has launched Proton Scribe, a privacy-protecting AI writing assistant integrated with Proton Mail. This new tool aims to boost productivity while ensuring data privacy.
Features of Proton Scribe
Proton Scribe helps users compose emails based on a single prompt, proofread content, and correct spelling and grammar with a single click. What sets Proton Scribe apart is its unique local AI approach, which processes prompts directly on users' devices instead of sending data to a cloud service. Users also have the option to use Proton's secure "no log" servers.
Commitment to Privacy
Proton emphasizes that privacy is the cornerstone of Proton Scribe. Many AI services use user content to train large language models and mishandle data, but Proton assures users that their data will not be used this way. In a survey, 79% of Proton's business users expressed concerns about their private data being used to train AI, although 60% of users were interested in using AI tools.
Data Security and User Control
Proton's zero-access encryption ensures that user data from inboxes is not used to train AI. Proton Scribe does not retain any data typed into the tool, and no data is shared with third parties. Proton founder Andy Yen highlighted the importance of privacy-first AI tools, noting that Proton's business model relies on user control over data, rather than platform exploitation.
Availability and Pricing
Proton Scribe is initially available to Proton Mail business customers for $2.99 per user per month after a 14-day free trial. Proton Visionary and Lifetime subscribers will get Proton Scribe for free. The feature is being rolled out to Proton Mail web and desktop apps.
