OpenAI Launches ChatGPT App for Windows in Early Preview

OpenAI has launched a preview of its dedicated ChatGPT app for Windows, bringing the popular AI-powered chatbot to desktop users. Currently available to ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu users, the app offers early access to the platform’s newest features, with plans for a more comprehensive release later this year.

New Features in the Windows App

The Windows app introduces a range of functionality, allowing users to chat with the AI about files and photos. OpenAI has integrated its latest model improvements into the app, including access to OpenAI o1-preview, the company's newest and most advanced model to date.

However, the Windows version still has some limitations. The app currently doesn’t support voice interactions, including the Advanced Voice Mode, which is available on other ChatGPT clients. Additionally, some features connected to OpenAI’s GPT Store are not yet functional in this early release.

User-Friendly Design

Despite the app being in its early stages, users can already benefit from a few notable features. Like the macOS version, the ChatGPT Windows app can be minimized into a “companion” window, allowing users to work seamlessly with other apps while using ChatGPT in the background.

The app also supports file and photo uploads, document summarization, and image generation using OpenAI’s DALL-E 3. These features make the Windows app a valuable tool for users who want to streamline their workflow and access the latest in AI technology.

A full release of the Windows ChatGPT app is expected later this year, with OpenAI promising more advanced features and broader support as development continues.
