Microsoft Delays Recall Feature for Copilot Plus PCs to December

Microsoft has once again postponed the launch of Recall, an AI-driven feature designed for Copilot Plus PCs that creates screenshots of nearly everything users see on their screens. Originally scheduled to start testing with Windows Insiders in October, the feature’s release has now been pushed back to December. According to Microsoft, the delay is necessary to ensure a secure and reliable user experience.

“We are committed to delivering a secure and trusted experience with Recall. To ensure we deliver on these important updates, we’re taking additional time to refine the experience before previewing it with Windows Insiders,” said Brandon LeBlanc, senior product manager of Windows, in a statement to The Verge.

Background on Recall’s Multiple Delays

Initially intended for release in June, Recall faced immediate backlash over privacy and security concerns, leading Microsoft to delay the feature. While it was rescheduled for testing with Windows Insiders just weeks later, a second delay moved the date to October. Microsoft’s decision to now delay until December is aimed at further strengthening Recall’s security.

In response to privacy concerns, Microsoft has made Recall an opt-in feature, meaning users can choose to enable or uninstall it. The company has also focused on fully encrypting the Recall database, restricting access to authenticated users through Windows Hello, Microsoft’s biometric authentication tool.
