DALL-E 3 Images, But There’s a Limit

OpenAI has begun rolling out a new feature for free ChatGPT users, enabling them to generate images using the DALL-E 3 model. Previously, this capability was exclusive to paid ChatGPT Plus subscribers, but now, even those using the free version of the chatbot can access this powerful image creation tool.

New Feature with Limitations

While the new feature expands accessibility, there are some limitations. Free users are restricted to generating only two images per day, compared to the 50-image daily limit available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This may be sufficient for users with modest image needs, but it’s worth noting that the free version of Microsoft Copilot offers up to 15 images per day, providing more flexibility.

How DALL-E 3 Enhances Image Creation

DALL-E 3’s image creation feature is designed to be user-friendly, even for those unsure of what type of image they want. For instance, in a demonstration, a user requested an example of "art nouveau" for a wedding reception. ChatGPT generated an image of an art nouveau-style wedding in a barn, showcasing the model’s ability to interpret and create visual content based on user input.

Additionally, the feature can assist in more specific tasks, such as designing a logo. Users can provide details about their business, including the name, industry, target audience, and any specific ideas or themes. ChatGPT then generates an image based on these inputs and offers options for further refinement.

Gradual Rollout and Access

Although OpenAI indicated that the image generation feature is being gradually rolled out, some free users have already been able to access it. However, after generating two images, users are informed that they have reached their daily limit and are prompted to either upgrade to ChatGPT Plus or wait until the next day to create more images.

Other AI-Powered Image Creation Tools

For users who find the two-image limit restrictive, there are several alternative AI-powered image creation tools available, such as Microsoft Designer, Google Gemini's Imagen 2, Stability AI's DreamStudio, Midjourney, and Wombo Dream. However, for those already using ChatGPT and with light image needs, this new feature offers a convenient and integrated option for creating visual content.
