Asana Launches AI Studio: No-Code AI Agents for Smarter Workflows

Asana, a leading platform in enterprise work management, has introduced Asana AI Studio, a no-code builder designed to help teams create and deploy customizable AI agents in their workflows. These AI-powered agents can now handle a range of tasks across different stages of work—intake, planning, execution, and reporting—streamlining processes and enhancing team efficiency.

AI-Driven Workflow Automation

Unlike typical AI tools that focus on content generation, Asana’s AI agents integrate directly into workflows, acting like team members. These agents assist in critical tasks such as project coordination and work orchestration from intake to planning, execution, and reporting. Asana’s innovative approach leverages its Work Graph® to map relationships between people, tasks, and objectives across an organization, offering AI-powered workflows or "Smart workflows" that improve collaboration and efficiency.

According to Asana co-founder and CEO Dustin Moskovitz, "We're excited to roll out a no-code builder that lets customers design workflows by simply giving AI instructions in plain language. This level of ease and accessibility to building agents is a big step forward for any company wanting to improve the quality of their work while empowering teams to move faster."

Addressing Work Management Challenges

Despite advancements in workplace technology, many companies still struggle with managing projects and fostering cross-functional collaboration. Asana’s 2024 State of Work Innovation report reveals that employees spend over half their time—53%—on low-value tasks, with only 21% believing that their organization collaborates effectively.

Moskovitz highlights how AI Studio aims to solve these issues, stating, "Organizations are drowning in tools and crave clarity around how work connects to business goals. They want to free up employee time to focus on the most important work – this is where Asana comes in." He adds that AI Studio blends human creativity with AI efficiency, enabling companies to prioritize innovation and critical goals.

Real-World Applications of AI Studio

During Asana's Beta program, teams in various departments—including Marketing, Operations, IT, HR, and R&D—are already leveraging AI Studio to optimize workflows. Here's how AI Studio is transforming different use cases:

  • Marketing Teams: AI assists in campaign planning, creative production, and editorial tasks. From prioritizing project requests to drafting content, AI agents streamline tasks across each phase.

  • Ops and IT Teams: AI supports strategic planning and resource management, helping IT teams triage work requests, estimate resources, and suggest optimal project sequencing.

For example, AI can:

  • Intake: Automatically prioritize and restructure project requests based on team needs.

  • Planning: Conduct research, draft briefs, and estimate timelines.

  • Execution: Draft content, manage approvals, keep tasks on schedule, and ensure branding consistency.

  • Reporting: Tag and categorize work for real-time reporting accuracy.

Morningstar’s Success with AI Studio

Global financial firm Morningstar, with over 11,000 employees across 29 countries, has implemented AI Studio to improve its project management processes and increase efficiency. Their IT team created a Smart workflow to automate project intake evaluation. AI now assesses new requests based on predefined criteria, generates necessary questions, and makes recommendations on project prioritization and resource allocation.

Early access is available starting October 22 for Enterprise and Enterprise+ customers, with Advanced annual tiers to follow soon. For more details, visit asana.com/product/ai.

Belinda Hardman, Director of Program Management at Morningstar, shares the impact: “Previously, it took two weeks to review a request and gather the information we needed to proceed. Now we can eliminate time spent on manual back-and-forth because Asana AI identifies and captures the information we need right off the bat.”

Supporting Customers with AI: Training, Services, and Partnerships

In addition to AI Studio, Asana is launching a new Collaborative Work Management Certification program, including an "AI for Work" skill badge, designed to help businesses build AI strategies for transformation. Asana also offers professional services and a global partner network to provide customers with expert guidance and support on their AI journey.
