Anthropic Launches Claude Android App to Expand AI Chatbot Reach

Anthropic launched its Claude Android app on Tuesday, expanding its AI chatbot to more users. This move aims to encourage users to switch from ChatGPT by making Claude accessible on more platforms.

The Claude Android app functions similarly to the iOS version released in May. It offers free access to Anthropic’s top AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, along with upgraded plans through Anthropic’s Pro and Team subscriptions. Users can sync their conversations with Claude across devices and upload photos or files for real-time image analysis. The app also includes real-time language translation, which Anthropic hopes will attract more users.

Additionally, enterprise customers can access their Claude accounts on mobile devices.

Despite Anthropic's claims that its AI models rival those of OpenAI and Google, the startup has struggled to attract consumers. The Claude iOS app had a modest launch, with 157,000 total global downloads in its first week, compared to the ChatGPT iOS app’s 480,000 installs in its first five days.
