Emma Marx: Boundaries ~ Reviewer Rated

The Submission of Emma Marx: Boundaries is a New Sensations production directed by Jacky St. James and starring Penny Pax, Riley Reid, Sara Luvv, Richie Calhoun, Van Wylde, and Logan Pierce.
Creating a sequel is risky business both financially and artistically, but Jacky St. James has succeeded admirably with Boundaries. The original the Submission of Emma Marx won 2014 awards from both AVN and XBIZ and is already an adult film classic. Boundaries is equally as good and deserves similar accolades this year.
Worth mentioning is the rare accomplishment of reprising an original cast. Bringing back Penny Pax, Richie Calhoun, Riley Reid, and Van Wylde is a feat in itself and increases Boundaries' impact on the story of Emma Marx.
In this installment, Emma (Penny Pax) settles in with her dominant Mr. Frederick (Richie Calhoun) only to have her trust in him questioned when one of his former subs, Audrina (Sara Luvv), shows up unexpectedly. Emma is faced with difficult propositions that create twists and turns in her relationship with Mr. Frederick.
In dealing with her sister Nadia (Riley Reid) and her husband Ray (Van Wylde), Emma continues to endure criticisms of her bondage lifestyle that are a carry over from the first film. In Boundaries, Nadia remains sexually conventional but expectantly attempts to dip her toes into the BDSM waters in the film’s first sex scene. A blindfold and calling her husband "master" is about as kinky as it gets.
Nevertheless, a blindfolded Riley Reid is still a hot little sex machine who gives Van Wylde a run for his money. Though the sex is the standard formula-based fare expected in couples porn, it is an effective contrast to Emma's carnal experiences that are highlighted later. Plus, an upbeat and enthusiastic Riley Reid is a pleasure to watch.
As the story moves forward, edgier sex invades the narrative. When Mr. Frederick is persuading Emma to seduce her co-worker Shane (Logan Pierce), she fantasizes he’d do her backdoor style. Mr. Frederick accommodates Emma's wishes and the adorable Penny Pax's anal talents scorch the screen. Later, Mr. Frederick will bring Shane into a three-way with Emma that is a can't miss winner. Don't ignore the BTS segment that is included on the DVD, by the way. Penny talks about her love of gang bangs.
Unfortunately, the film has a short coming. Other than a few quick glimpses, Sara Luvv's role is minimal. Her talents and sexiness never move center stage and, much to her fans' disappointment, she has no sex scene. Oh well, maybe next time.
As is his custom, Eddie Powell’s cinematography is pivotal in framing the story. His fluid camera work is Tinsel Town quality. In the bathtub scene, for example, Powell captures Emma’s angst over Mr. Frederick. She sits alone, knees drawn to her chest, water cascading down her body. Emma could be a tormented heroin addict or a tortured soul contemplating suicide. Powell’s camera and Penny Pax’s acting elevate this scene above typical porn fare.
In pushing Boundaries beyond the expectations of the erotic couples-oriented movie, Eddie Powell's shooting joins with Jacky St. James' scriptwriting and directing to redefine what women enjoy in date night porn. Bondage, anal, and gonzo--off the board a few years ago--is now front and center as female porn consumers take a greater interest in their fetishes and sexual expression.
If Boundaries were mediocre, this reviewer would not suggest another Emma film. However, Jacky St. James is emerging as a recognized voice in adult entertainment. Her storytelling is engaging and the sex scenes are carefully placed to complement the drama surrounding Emma.
Perhaps Emma three is a possibility?
