Deen Speaks at Washington University

James Deen (ST. LOUIS, MO) -- James Deen will speak at the University of Washington this Friday, February 8. The panel discussion featuring Deen, "A Night with the Stars: Life, Love, and Sex in the Workplace," is the part of the university’s Sex Week. Sponsored by the Student Health Advisory Committee, Sex Week is a series of events at the University aimed to foster a more open discussion around sexual health, sexuality, and societal views of sex.

"I'm excited and proud to be a part of a discussion on sex in our society," Deen says. "Creating an open dialogue about sex is important to promote a safe, respectful, and fun experience. In my opinion, doing so will also help individuals achieve personal growth and self-discovery, something I think is stifled by the shame many associate with sex."

"Thank you to the students at Washington University for inviting me to be a part of their Sex Week," adds Deen.

Wash U. Sex Week representative Brian Baker says, "We are really excited to be able to bring James Deen as one of our guest speakers for Wash U’s 2013 Sex Week. After much thought, we decided Mr. Deen would give a unique and professional perspective on sexual health and wellness."

The two-hour panel, which is open to university students only, will discuss the inner workings of the adult entertainment industry. The panelists will be asked questions generated by members of the WashU community and local health care professionals, and selected by panel of students and staff involved in health and sexuality topics.

"We hope to cover topics such as the recent legislation forcing condom use in films made in Los Angeles, health issues individuals face in the industry, and societal reactions to their profession," states the Sex Week website.

The panel is the final activity in a weeklong series of events including discussions of power exchange, contraception, and relationships as portrayed in media, as well as a Q-and-a session about LGBTQ sexuality and an open-table discussion on how to make Wash U. A more sex-positive campus. The Student Union-sponsored Student Health Advisory Committee has presented Sex Week, formally called Sexual Responsibility Week, since the '90s.

The Student Health Advisory Committee reached out to James Deen, considered by many to be the most popular performer in adult entertainment, to come to campus. Besides his extensive porn credentials, James Deen recently completed a starring role opposite Lindsay Lohan in Bret Easton Ellis and Paul Schrader’s upcoming feature film, "The Canyons." His newest mainstream project is as producer on "Cowboys & Engines," a short steampunk western film. The project is currently in production and raising funds through KickStarter.com: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1865079920/cowboys-and-engines-a-steampunk- western.

Sex Week is a campus activity at the University of Washington at St. Louis and is open to enrolled students only. For more information, visit the Student Health Advisory Committee website at http://shac.wustl.edu/.

About James Deen:

As soon as James Deen turned 18, he knew he was destined to have sex with girls on camera. In his early years in the porn industry, peers warned him his skinny body type and boyish looks were not fit for porn, but within a few years Deen excelled to become the top performer in the industry. He is the youngest male to ever earn Male Performer of the Year honors at the AVN, XBIZ, and XRCO awards shows. Deen’s honest passion for all kinds of sex, both on and off camera, is displayed in the array of movies to his credit (over 3000). Whether filming hardcore BDSM or straight gonzo and feature adult films, James is always the most captivating male on screen. In addition to his XXX achievements, he was noted as one of the top 100 Jews in Heeb magazine in 2009, and has been featured on CNBC’s special "Porn: Business of Pleasure," ABC’s "Nightline," Good Magazine, the Goodmen Project, GQ Magazine, Rolling Stone, E! Entertainment, TMZ, and many other mainstream media outlets. Though his career has only begun, James Deen appreciates every ounce of the successes he has, exclaiming, "Seriously – I am the luckiest boy alive." About Sex Week:

Sex week, formally Sexual Responsibility Week, is a weeklong series of events for the University of Washington at St. Louis community aimed to foster a more open discussion around sexual health, sexuality, and societal views of sex. Communication is key to healthy relationships, and students who choose to attend Sex Week events are encouraged to ask questions, talk to peers, and make educated decisions. The Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC), a Student Union-sponsored student group, has planned and implemented Sex Week every February since the 1990s. Student Union is Washington University’s student government and is responsible for allocating funds for student group programming. Events are planned for student activists to work together, feminists (secret or self-proclaimed) to further and complicate their views, and for anyone interested in sex to learn more about their health and sexual expression.
