4th Purim Bacchanal

(LOS ANGELES, CA) -- The Dr. Susan Block Institute is delighted to announce its fourth biannual Purim Bacchanal, featuring the internationally renowned Commedia Erotica Players performing an erotic Purimspiel of the Biblical story of Esther, the ancient Persian Jewish beauty contest winner who saved her people from genocide with nothing but the power of her own "Weapons of Mass Seduction." in a time when power was almost always gained through brute force and merciless violence–a time much like our own–this was, and still is, a human miracle.
Porn stars, poets and character actors will improvise Biblical roles as Dr. Susan Block, a former Sunday school teacher turned sexologist, narrates her critically acclaimed version of the Megillat Esther in the Womb Room, to be transformed into the king’s court and harem, as well as a "gallows" (a St. Andrew’s bondage cross), before a live studio audience, on Saturday night, March 19, 2011, at Dr. Suzy’s Speakeasy in the Soul of Downtown LA.
Doors open for guests and audience at 9:30pm, and the show starts at 10:30pm PST, broadcasting live on DrSusanBlock.TV. The erotic after-party starts at midnight.
Tehran-born Jewish porn star Persia Pele will play the title role of Queen Esther who grows from innocent virgin to powerful political seductress and sexy savior of her people. Martial artist, dancer, character actor and porn star Bon Jon Syn will be King Ahaseurus (considered to be the historic King Xerxes). Other erotic stars who have confirmed for Purim include Misti Dawn, Michael Vegas (Venus and Eros on Eros Day Xi), Sinn Sage, Magdalene, Jen Friel, Ms. Kartier, Shay Morgan, Rob Loads, Kelly Shibari, as well as award-winning playwright Michael Phillips, TS Xtina Quinn, comedian Chris Floyd, plus bellydancers and drummers to be announced, and more players confirming as Purim approaches.
Since Purim is the Jewish adaptation of the even more ancient spring holiday of Persian New Year or Nowruz, this special edition of the Dr. Susan Block Show will include such Persian New Year customs as fire-jumping and spoon-beating, in addition to the Purim traditions of cranking groggers, eating hamentaschen and drinking "until one cannot tell the difference between the good guys and the bad" (Babylonian Talmud, Megillah 7b).
Actually, thanks to Wikileaks, we don’t need to get drunk to have a tough time telling the good guys from the bad. But sacred wine and other "spirits" are an integral component of the Rites of Spring, and every important scene in the Story of Esther includes drinking, beginning with a 180-day Dionysian-style festival of Biblical proportions (and they say Charlie Sheen is decadent).
Besides massive quantities of alcohol, the Story of Esther features sex, seduction, masquerade, exhibitionism, erotic teasing, sexual harassment, debauchery, feasting, dominance and submission, wild parties, political intrigue, gambling, the mysteries of the harem and the power of one hot woman’s Weapons of Mass Seduction to stop an impending genocide. These elements make it a splendid holiday for the Block Institute. Traditional Jews beware: This is not your Bubbe’s Purim.
Purim Bacchanal exhibiting artists include Scott Siedman, Yossi Vardan, Alex Filangieri, JuxLii, Andrew Dunbar, Skee Goodhart, Tom Zimmerman, Annie Sprinkle, Betty Dodson, John Evans, Sayko, Doug Johns, Karin Swildens, Glenn Campbell, and Xam Paris. A shimmering exhibit of the traditional Persian New Year table with symbolic artifacts, samovar and hookah, will also be on display.
Only 100 special guests and audience members will be admitted to the Speakeasy on March 19. So make your reservations now. Call 213.670.0066 or go to http://drsuzyb.com/jw
