(BOSTON, MA) -- The first ''Montreal Burlesque Festival'' is three months away and according to Festival Founder Scarlette James, its destined to become an annual hit.
''It's a cabaret night in the spirit of the 30s 40s and 50s where ladies in the audience have as much fun as the girls on stage! Sponsors and Attendees numbers are both stellar, and we still have three months to go.'' said James.
Burlesque has made a comeback over the last couple years, the volume of glam clothing and accessories currently available representing the period is just one indication of it's continued growth in popularity. Entertainers such as Dita Von Teese have established highly publicized careers based on Burlesque fantasy come real.
''New Burlesque tends to put the emphasis on style and tend to be sexy rather than sexual, often involving humor. Burlesque gals perform for fun and spend lots of money on costumes, rehearsal, and props. Performers will often strip down to pasties and g-strings, said James.
Burlesque is all about the strip tease, but more about the strip than the tease,'' she added.
According to James, today's Burlesque revival has found homes throughout the United States and Canada, the largest communities located on the East and West Coasts. New York City boasts the largest east coast community. The San Francisco Bay Area is home of the largest monthly burlesque and variety show (the Hubba Hubba Revue).
''There are Now also thriving Burlesque scenes in Canada with myself, Scarlett James and the Montreal Burlesque Festival, Monde Ose Entertainment and Team Burlesque,'' she quickly pointed out.
Show sponsor www.ErosBoutique.com is exited about the show. Boston based store proprietor, Sheila Rae, says her contribution to the festival has her own customers clamoring for products that represent the era.
''Ever since we shipped our donations to Scarlette for the Montreal Burlesque festival our clients have been combing our website and store for Burlesque wear, jewelry and other accessories.
Our feather boas and fans have never sold so well, it's like people are suddenly waking up to a whole new fantasy. I can see this being as in demand in our fantasy wear department as the standby school girl and nurse outfits,'' Rae said.
Is the Boston based store benefiting from their sponsorship? ''Absolutely,'' Rae said, ''Ever since we announced our sponsorship our customers have been buzzing about it. Even though the festival is across the boarder we have had many clients ask about access and transportation options,'' she added.
