  • Perplexity Poised To Become Latest AI Startup To Hit Unicorn Status - Perplexity AI is reportedly nearing completion of a funding round that will give the AI search startup a unicorn valuation of around $1 billion. The near doubling in valuation in just two months is the latest example of the unwavering belief investors have in seemingly all things AI — regardless of the valuation.

  • Madonna is among the early adopters of AI’s next wave - Madonna’s team used Runway, a text-to-video tool, to create “La Isla Bonita” concert visuals. “We tried CGI. It looked pretty bland and cheesy and she didn’t like it,” said Sasha Kasiuha, content director for Madonna’s Celebration Tour.

  • Google takes aim at SEO-optimized junk pages and spam with new search update - Google’s new policies will address the need to keep low-quality content out of search, like “expired websites repurposed as spam repositories by new owners,” to improve Google’s ranking systems to downrank pages that were “created for search engines instead of for people".

  • New AI Smartphone Tool Accurately Diagnoses Ear Infections - A new smartphone app developed by physician-scientists at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh, uses AI to accurately diagnose ear infections, and could help decrease unnecessary antibiotic use in young children, according to new research published today in JAMA Pediatrics.

Separate research by Talkdesk, which found that 68% of U.S. shoppers would lose trust in a brand if it gave them poor recommendations by AI chatbots. Additionally, 53% said poor AI chatbot experiences would stop them from shopping with the retailer again.
