• Elon Musk Backs AI Project to Decode Ancient Roman Scrolls - Elon Musk pledges financial support for the AI-driven Vesuvius Challenge to decode ancient Roman scrolls, enhancing historical research. The project's next phase aims to read entire scrolls with an estimated cost of potentially reaching up to $10 million for all scrolls.

It also allows call recipients to file lawsuits and gives state attorneys general a new mechanism to crack down on violators.

• Crux is building GenAI-powered business intelligence tools - Crux creates AI models that answer questions about business data in plain language along the lines of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. “For example, marketers using HubSpot can ask a question like ‘Why are my email campaigns to new users getting low conversions?'”

• AI could change how first responders navigate through Massachusetts traffic - "That old way was you had to approach an intersection and you were maybe only a couple feet away to ask for a change, and if you're going at speed that change may not come,"; "By switching over and using AI and the cloud for connectivity, those traffic lights now can be controlled remotely and the whole way."

• Daedalus, which is building precision-manufacturing factories powered by AI, raises $21M - Daedalus is looking to “redefine manufacturing,” with AI-powered factories for creating bespoke precision parts. Its software captures the manufacturing decisions data of one “part,” and uses that to guide the decisions around how a similar part is created in the future. Daedalus uses pattern matching to apply that previous knowledge to configure its machines for the new part.

• California lawmaker unveils landmark AI bill - The new bill would require companies training new AI models to test their tools for “unsafe” behavior, institute hacking protections, and develop the tech in such a way that it can be shut down completely.
