  • Apple is reportedly exploring a partnership with Google for Gemini-powered feature on iPhones - Apple is looking to license Google’s AI tech to introduce AI-powered features with iOS updates later this year. Additionally, the company also held discussions with OpenAI to potentially use GPT models. Earlier this year, Google partnered with Samsung to introduce Gemini-powered AI features on the Galaxy S24 series of devices.

  • xAI open-sources base model of Grok, but without any training code - xAI said that the model wasn’t tuned for any particular application such as using it for conversations. The company noted that Grok-1 was trained on a “custom” stack without specifying details. The model is licensed under Apache License 2.0, which permits commercial use cases.

  • Reddit faces FTC probe over AI data practices ahead of IPO - Using user data for AI has sparked worries among privacy advocates and regulators. Reddit conceded in its filing that its data licensing initiatives are just beginning and subject to evolving regulations.

  • OpenAI aims to make its own AI processors — chip venture in talks with Abu Dhabi investment firm - MGX, a newly established investment company from Abu Dhabi, is in talks to finance Sam Altman's ambitious plan to build excessive semiconductor manufacturing capacity for AI processors. If the talks succeed, the move will be in line with the United Arab Emirates' strategy to become a key player in the global artificial intelligence industry.

  • YouTube lays out new rules for 'realistic' AI-generated videos - Starting today, the platform will require anyone uploading a realistic-looking video that "is made with altered or synthetic media, including generative AI" to label it for the sake of transparency. However, when it comes to more sensitive topics (such as news, elections, finance and health), YouTube will place a label directly on the video player to make it more prominent.

  • Why the AI world is gathering at Nvidia’s GTC 2024 event this week - Chip giant Nvidia is hosting a massive AI conference as part of its GTC event this week, which kicks off Monday. With a keynote planned from Jensen Huang, CEO and co-founder, of the company best known in year’s past for its gaming hardware and today for its massive market share in the burgeoning AI hardware market, expect Nvidia to make some news.

  • Nvidia AI developer conference kicks off with new chips in focus - Nvidia's new chip and software announcements at GTC 2024 will help determine whether Nvidia can maintain its leadership position as the dominant seller of the tools needed to fuel the past year's frenzy around AI. Nvidia dominates the data center AI chip market, capturing roughly an 80% share last year.

  • SoundHound AI in Focus as Nvidia's GPU Tech Conference Kicks Off - Since Nvidia disclosed in an SEC filing last month that it had a stake in SoundHound as of the end of 2023, SoundHound shares have more than tripled in value. SoundHound's recent explosive stock performance and growing influence in the AI sound niche will keep it in the spotlight.

  • Nvidia in talks to acquire AI infrastructure platform Run:ai in massive deal - Run:ai has developed an orchestration and virtualization software layer tailored to the unique needs of AI workloads running on GPUs and similar chipsets. Run:ai’s Kubernetes-based container platform for AI clouds efficiently pools and shares GPUs by automatically assigning the necessary amount of computing power.

  • Gale debuts generative AI platform for media-buying - Trained on both first- and third-party data, Alchemy.AI includes features for both sales strategies and media planning.   • VC Arjun Sethi talks a big game about selling his company-picking strategies to other investors; he says they’re buying it - Arjun Sethi said that “in five years, I’ll have 50% of the world’s private data” at his fingertips, and that it will be “impossible to compete against me.” Sethi, a co-founder of the venture firm Tribe Capital, is talking about Termina, a subscription-based AI software platform for “quantitative diligence” that Tribe recently spun out.
