• OpenAI unveils AI voice cloning tool that only needs a 15-second clip to work - OpenAI said it began developing Voice Engine in late 2022 and that the technology has already powered preset voices for the text-to-speech API and ChatGPT’s Read Aloud feature. The model was trained on “a mix of licensed and publicly available data.” OpenAI told the publication the model will only be available to about 10 developers. You can read more on the OpenAI blog.

• Microsoft, OpenAI plan $100 billion data-center project - Called "Stargate", the data-center is set to launch in 2028. The proposed supercomputer, which will be based in the U.S., would be the biggest in a series the companies are looking to build over the next six years, and will be able to process more advanced tasks than traditional data centers.

• OpenAI quietly unveils an editor tool for DALL-E images - The editor tool enables you to edit images by selecting an area of the image and describing your changes in chat!

• The National WWII Museum is using AI to let visitors chat with World War II survivors - A new exhibit, called Voices from the Front, the museum filmed the memories of that generation before they’re all gone — and is using artificial intelligence and voice-recognition software to index the memories in a way that will allow visitors to “converse” with World War II-era Americans for decades to come.

• US, Japan to call for deeper cooperation in AI, semiconductors - As part of the agreement, Japan and the U.S. will likely set up a framework for AI research and development, working with Nvidia, Arm and Amazon, among others.

• Congress bans staff use of Microsoft's AI Copilot - The Microsoft Copilot application has been deemed by the Office of Cybersecurity to be a risk to users due to the threat of leaking House data to non-House approved cloud services. The House restricted staffers' use of ChatGPT last June, allowing limited use of the paid subscription version while banning the free version. Microsoft hopes the suite of government-oriented tools they plan to roll out this summer will address Congress' concerns.

• Women in AI: Urvashi Aneja is researching the social impact of AI in India - Urvashi Aneja is the founding director of Digital Futures Lab, an interdisciplinary research effort that seeks to examine the interaction between technology and society in the Global South. Aneja’s current research focuses on the societal impact of algorithmic decision-making systems in India, where she’s based, and platform governance. Aneja recently authored a study on the current uses of AI in India, reviewing use cases across sectors including policing and agriculture.

• Look beyond Nvidia as these three AI-chip stocks win praise from BofA - Nvidia Corp. and Broadcom Inc. shares are BofA’s leading ways to play the artificial-intelligence trend within the chip sector, but several other players could carve out a “profitable niche.”
